Thirty Years

The Foss Dyke Band is a nationally graded 1st Section Brass Band and is a member of the Brass Band Association.

Founded in 1986 from the North Hykeham Band it is one of the few bands to have gained promotion to the Championship Section over a period of seven years. This was mainly due to the leadership and inspiration of the then Musical Director Mr Walter Ritchie MBE.

This picture was taken in the early years when the band was in the 4th Section. Sadly most of the players in this photo have moved on, however we still see some of them in and around Lincolnshire today.

Foss Dyke moved to its own purpose built band room in the early 1990s. This is located on the Waddington Village playing fields with its own off road parking facilities. The band has developed a strong concert and contesting programme – it usually contests 3 times a year at Butlins in January, the Regionals in March, and at a contest in the Autumn. It also has regular concerts at the Drill Hall in Lincoln, Terry O’Toole Theatre in North Hykeham as well as now having a commitment to a Charity Concert each year.

Foss Dyke is proud of its reputation in the 1st Section and has achieved a 7th and 5th place in the Regional Contest in the last two years respectively. This will place the band at the head of the Grading Tables in 2010 going into the next Regional Contest.
